Ford Explorer Base
A turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes standard, allowing the base Explorer to create 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Ford Explorer Timberline
If you are someone who wants an off-road-oriented SUV, the Explorer Timberline is for you. You get all-terrain tires, skid plates, and front tow hooks for this trim level. All-wheel drive also comes standard for added traction. Inside, the Timberline arrives equipped with heated second-row seats and synthetic leather upholstery.
Ford Explorer Limited
The Limited model does not have the off-road-oriented features found on the Timberline. Instead, it gives you extra luxury in the form of leather upholstery and ventilated front seats. This model also gains second-row sunshades and a heated steering wheel to increase comfort inside the Explorer. The exterior boasts sophisticated chrome accents and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Ford Explorer ST
The ST is the first option on our list to have a turbocharged V6 engine that creates 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Ford Explorer King Ranch
This version of the Explorer sticks with the turbo V6 engine. It does not have the performance upgrades, but it does give you a hands-free power liftgate and unique wood interior trim. The King Ranch also has unique leather upholstery to show off, plus leather-wrapped interior panels. Several convenience features are available here as well, including driver's seat memory settings and a power-folding third-row seat. Rear automatic braking is also available for the Explorer King Ranch.
Ford Explorer Platinum
This top-of-the-line Explorer builds off the luxury found in the King Ranch. It gains adaptive headlights that corner with the vehicle, plus stunning 21-inch alloy wheels. A satin aluminum grille and other satin aluminum exterior accents help set this version of the Explorer apart from the lineup. Both the Platinum and King Ranch models can come equipped with a 14-speaker premium sound system as well as a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
