It happens to every driver at some point: you try to crank the engine only to hear the “click-click-click” telling you that there’s a dead battery under the hood. Luckily, we have a quick, 6-step solution for you. After you get your car, truck or SUV running again, be sure to bring it over to us here at Mitchell Selig Ford, where our technicians can replace your vehicle’s battery.

6 Easy Steps to Jumpstart Your Vehicle’s Battery

  1. First, make sure that both vehicles are in Park or Neutral. Set the emergency brake and pull out the jumper cables.
  2. Turn off both vehicles’ engines and open the hoods.
  3. Attach the first red clip to the Positive terminal of your vehicle’s battery. This should have the letters “POS” or a “+” sign.
  4. Next, you’ll want to attach the other red clip to the Positive terminal of the other vehicle’s battery.
  5. After that, you’ll attach the first black clip to Negative battery terminal on the other person’s vehicle. Lastly, attach the second black clip to an unpainted metal part of your own vehicle.
  6. Start the working car and then let the engine run for a few minutes. Time to give you own vehicle’s engine a try. If it starts (and it should) then let the car run for several minutes before you try to drive it.

Your next step should be to bring your vehicle to us for a new battery. Our service center here at Mitchell Selig Ford is fully stocked and our automotive techs are ready to help. We’re located in Windsor, CT.
